Fisher Price Friday - Music Box Movie Camera

This vintage Fisher Price toy is a perfect marriage of a music box and a camera, two types of toys that my girls simply love.  It's the Music Box Movie Camera #919 made only between 1968-1970.  The Movie Camera came out the same time as the Changeable Picture Disk Camera #112.

The right side of the movie camera has a red knob that winds the music box up inside.  It also has a small blue lithograph that says Fisher - Price, Music Box Movie Camera with Changeable Picture Disc.  Two little blue birds singing to each other in the corner.  Below the lithograph is a raised picture of a little boy holding the camera (looking into it) while holding another disk in his other hand.

Both cameras came with 5 picture disks (total of 40 images).  The disks are interchangeable between both toys and three of the disks are the same (#2 and #3 are unique).

The music box movie camera disks include:

1. Animals and Their Babies
2. Learning About Color
3. Learning to Count 1-10
4. Goldilocks and the 3 Bears
5. A Visit to the City

Compared to the Changeable Disk Camera the Music Box Movie Camera is much cooler and more involved, after all it shows pictures and plays music!  It has a music box that plays the song "This Old Man" when you press the (white) trigger.  The disks also turn when you press the (white) trigger.

The front of the camera has a red "lens" that moves back and forth, although nothing actually changes.

The viewer is also red and the child can see the image while looking inside, although it won't move forward until they press the white trigger (if the music box is wound).  Above the red viewer circle is another smaller color viewer window with a plastic disk that moves around and changes the color from red to yellow to blue to clear.

The left side of the camera has a storage compartment.  The outside of the door has a lithograph with two happy children facing the camera towards a bird.

You can also see how the camera has a red handle with a yellow/red plastic wrist strap.  That same strap is found on the Picture Story Camera #784 and the Changeable Picture Disk Camera #112.

All 5 disks fit neatly inside.  You can also see where the disks fit in the front for viewing.  The storage door is kept closed with a red plastic knob that moves back and forth.

When the disks are removed you can see the music box workings through a clear plastic viewing window.  Remember that the music box plays "This Old Man", there were no variations.

The top of the Music Box Movie Camera has a blue lithograph with a toy number, Fisher Price logo and a multicolored circle.

This toy is fun, vibrant, colorful and unique.  My youngest (3.5 year old) has a little difficulty making it all work as pulling the trigger, winding and looking is a lot to do at once.  However, with a little help we can make it work together.

My oldest (seen in the photos) is 7 and does just fine on her own.

Hot Chocolate Party Favor - Easy Peasy!

My oldest nephew got married last weekend and they had the most delicious party favors.  Little individual hot chocolate sticks.  Each favor included a cube of chocolate and a cube of marshmallow on a stick with a tag that said "Bride & Groom's Names, Wedding Cocoa - The Perfect Mix".

When we got home to try them I guessed that they must be made out of fudge.  Just last month I posted an easy way to make a mocha at home using homemade fudge.  In my case it was my super simple 7 Minute Dark Chocolate Fudge recipe!

Ingredients
1 oz of Fudge (try my recipe!!), approximately 1 inch cubed
1 marshmallow
- stick, cellophane square and ribbon to decorate

Directions on the tag should say to stir the stick into 8 oz of steaming milk.

What a wonderful gift idea to combine the fudge and a marshmallow (homemade or store bought)!  Perfect for a wedding or birthday party favor (hello Frozen themed parties!!!) or even a simple Christmas gift.

I can't wait to make them myself.  Of course I'll need a different little tag since my wedding days are long gone.  Here are some ideas:

Frozen Party Theme

"A Sweet Treat to Warm Your Heart"
"Some People are Worth Melting For"

Christmas Gift

"Baby It's Cold Outside"
"Have a Cup of Cheer"

Happy Wedding Ryan and Mackenzie and thanks for the hot chocolate! :)

Fisher Price Saturday - Snow Day

Fisher price Friday is Fisher Price Saturday today.  We're out of town celebrating a relatives wedding.  This morning we woke up to the most wonderful snow!  For my desert girls this was quite a treat.  Especially since it was in the 80s back home.

We bundled up and even built a snowman.  We'll be back home to our shirts and sandals tomorrow but are loving our coats, scarves and mittens today!

Chocolate Applesauce Banana Cake

I had a couple ripe bananas on my counter last week and company for dinner so I decided to whip up a more healthy version of chocolate cake for dessert.  My girls LOVE chocolate and I figured that although this isn't exactly "healthy" (just a wee bit of sugar in there, ha!) it is an improvement over regular cake with ingredients like bananas and applesauce.

I was generous with the chocolate chips on top and my girls were fans!  They asked for seconds and this cake was gone within 2 days.

I appreciated that it was an easy recipe to make and only required one bowl.

Chocolate Applesauce Banana Cake

Ingredients
2 very ripe bananas
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup applesauce (unsweetened)
1/2 cup water
1 tsp white vinegar
1¼ cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup unsweetened baking cocoa
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
2/3 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips, divided

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Coat 8x8 baking pan with coconut oil (or spray with non-stick cooking spray).
2. Mash bananas in a medium size bowl. Stir in sugars, applesauce, water, and vinegar until thoroughly combined.
3. Stir in flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt just until combined.
4. Fold in 1/3 cup of chocolate chips. Pour batter into baking pan. Sprinkle remaining chocolate chips on top.
5. Bake for 33-37 minutes or until toothpick inserted into cake comes out clean. Let cool, slice and serve. (we waited about 10 minutes)

Salsa Verde Crockpot Chicken Recipe

This recipe is easy, flavorful and easy.  Did I mention easy?  My BFF has referred to it as her "go-to chicken recipe" for some time but I just recently tried it.  Man I wish I'd listened to her sooner!

It is so simple, only 2-3 ingredients!

We used our chicken in tacos the first night and then I put it over a bed of lettuce and cilantro for leftovers the next day.  Both were amazing!

Salsa Verde Crockpot Chicken

2 frozen (or thawed) chicken breasts
1 jar of salsa verde sauce (I used TJs brand which is 12oz)
water - as needed

Put the chicken in the crockpot and pour the jar over it.  Cook on LOW for 5-7 hrs (longer with frozen breasts).  Add water as needed towards the end to keep chicken moist.

That's it!  I'll be adding this chicken recipe to our regular rotation.

Fisher Price Friday - Click 'n Clatter Car

The Click 'n Clatter Car #417 was made between 1976-1981.  This Fisher Price baby toy was designed for little ones ages 6 months - 2 years old (but shhh, don't tell my 3.5 year old b/c she still loves to play with it!).  This simple toy came with a Jumbo Little person which was easier for babies to hold and didn't have the pesky choking hazard problem of the regular little people. ;)

The plastic car held one driver and had bright red plastic wheels and a moving blue/yellow colored ball on the front. The red wheels can be moved around like an old rotary telephone dial (with the child's finger) or rolled on the ground like a car.  Either way the wheels make a clicking noise when moved.

The Click 'n Clatter Car came with one Jumbo Little Person.  There were at least two variations, a couple are shown in this photo.  Both were refereed to as "babies".

The beauty of this Click 'n Clatter Car is that there is no right side-up.  It works just fine either way, so a small child could easily operate it!  One side of the car had an imprint in the plastic of a happy puppy as well as the words Fisher-Price.

The other side of the car has an imprint of a happy bear holding three balloons as well as the words Fisher-Price.

The back of the Clatter Car has a lithograph that reads right side-up no matter which side is up.  It says Click 'N Clatter and has multicolored streamers and dots.  This lithograph is often missing in well worn/loved cars.

I've been a fan of this toy since I first received it as a Christmas present in 1977.  That's me playing with the toy while sitting in my mom's lap.  I'm also keeping a close eye on my big sister who is holding the little person figure.

Such an easy and simple toy, I love seeing my little girl play with the same one I did many years ago.  So fun!
