Fisher Price Friday - Discovery Cottage

Today on Fisher Price Friday I'd like to take a trip down the Jumbo isle.  Have you heard of the Jumbo Little People?  They were created first as bath toys, but then moved into other play sets.  They are geared towards the 1-3 yr old crowd as they are much larger than the original LP (less of a choking hazard).  This particular set is the Discovery Cottage #136.  It was made from 1984-1989 and comes with the house, a tricycle and the two people pictured.

The house is just the right size for little hands.  It has easy and fun activities that make it irresistible for my 1 year old. She loves this toy!

The front door is blue and opens with a ratchet sound.  It has a hole to put one of the jumbo people in it.  The bear pictured is another Jumbo person, although he originally came with a different set (the Poppity Pop Car #1011).  There is a doorbell that rings when you push the red button (plastic piece pushes up to the bell).  The plastic side of the house has little sunflowers and a bunny with a floppy ear.

The yellow roof opens to show the bedroom inside.  The back wall has a lithograph of a nursery including a dresser and quite a few familiar baby toys like the: 998 Music Box Teaching Clock, Happy Apple  and a 627 Rock A Stack to name a few.  There is also a crib in the plastic and a hole to put a person.

In the top of the roof there is a mirror, perfect for baby to admire herself. :)

The back of the cottage has a garage that opens with a blue door.  It is just the right size to hold the orange tricycle.  The last year the cottage was made it came with a yellow tricycle.  To the side of the garage is a red butterfly that makes a ratchet sound when moved up and down.  There is also a red chimney slide.

The side of the house has a roller that makes a rattling sound when moved.  There are three different pictures on the roller.  This one is of a baby taking a bubble bath.

The eager dog and cat look very happy.  The last image is of a fishbowl (with an orange fish in it) looking at a piece of birthday cake with one candle on top.  A little random but it's cute!

We love this set!  In fact my daughter loved it a little too much.  She kept lifting it up by the blue handle and dropping it on the tile floor (oops).  One time it broke part of the plastic inside.  Fortunately we were able to replace the house right away thanks to one of my favorite FPLP sellers and we keep it on the carpet now. :)  I added a few extra Jumbo LP to pack out the house.  I think we can fit 6 people in it!

So do you Jumbo too?

  3. Where can we get the little people and the car? My toddlers loved the cottage but I need the larger set of people.
