Make your own Balloon Weight

We have a tradition of getting lots of balloons for our kids' birthday parties.  They are a win-win because they provide both decoration and entertainment and sometimes a photo backdrop.

This year was no different and our 5 year old picked out her favorite 5 balloons at the Dollar Store.  Yes, that's right, these beauties were only $1 each!  Quite a bargain for a decoration that will most likely still be floating around come Christmas if we let them.  Sigh.

We've had a balloon weight for the last few years but it bit the dust thanks to a couple of overzealous 4 year olds at last year's party.  I was going to pick up another one (they retail $1-$3) but decided to get a little crafty and make one myself.

1.  I found the smallest gift bag I could find in the house.
2. Added 1/2 a sheet of tissue paper (birthday girl got to choose the color).

3. Put some large rocks in the bottom.
4. Tied on the balloons.

It's that simple!  It worked well at our party (kept 5 balloons from floating away) and can be taken apart to store flat until the next party.
