Fisher Price Fridays - Play Family Houseboat

Ahoy matey, today on Fisher Price Fridays we take to the open seas.  Well sort of.  I'd like to introduce you to the Fisher Price Little People (FPLP) Play Family Houseboat #985 made from 1972-1976.  This lovely little boat is one of the few FPLP sets that can actually go into the water.  The lithographs (stickers) are designed to be water resistant.

Except for the removable blue dingy off the back, we haven't tried our set in the water just yet.  It has fun cruising around the playroom instead. (note: this is an old photo, the people pictured are not all accurate to the set).

The original set came with two lounge chairs, a dingy, two life preservers, a red table (with a lithograph of a lobster dinner), two red captains chairs, yellow grill and 5 people.  The people included the captain, mom, boy and girl and a lucky dog (not pictured above).  Early editions of the houseboat included wood people except for the captain, he was always all plastic.

The blue top deck can be flipped up or removed.  It is also perfect for a little FPLP sun tanning action.

The lithograph on underneath is of a wood floor and a rug with a nautical picture.  This lithograph is often faded or well worn, perhaps because of exposure to water.  The blue top deck is often missing.  Children would break it off when using it as a handle.

When it's time for a swim the retractable diving board can be pulled out.

The top deck includes a red (built in) captains chair that swivels side to side when the boat is pulled (should have a yellow string in the front).  The yellow wheel also moves.  Each side of the boat has a FP lithograph and space to store the life preservers.

It's a lovely day for a cruise, don't you wish you were on the water?
